Christian Persecution in Africa

Christian persecution in Africa has become increasingly violent and targeted and is the deadliest place in the world for those who follow Jesus. With your support, you can make a great difference in the life of our persecuted brothers and sisters in Africa.

Here are some examples of what ICR Canada provides to African Christians:

Widows Project in Africa

Many places in Africa is the most persecuted region in the country. Boko Haram in the northeast and the Fulani extremists in the Middle Belt intentionally target Christians, considering them to be infidels. Muslim extremists are continuously attacking Christians, killing men, women, and children. According to reports by organizations like International Christian Concern, Africa is a very dangerous place to be for a Christian.

More women are made widows, more children are made orphans, and more men are made widowers than anywhere else in the world. ICR partners estimate there are 25,000 widows in Nigeria because of Christian persecution. ICR Canada is supporting widows (or widowers) whose spouses were killed by Muslim extremists.

Education for Persecuted Christian Children

Muslim Fulani herders, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and Boko Haram have insisted on eradicating Christians from many African nations. They consistently carry out attacks on Christians in Africa. Boko Haram burst into the world's consciousness when they kidnapped 276 schoolgirls in 2014. Their mission is the end Western education in Nigeria, and they, along with other Islamic terrorist groups, continue to terrorize schoolchildren.

Provide Emergency Aid

Many Islam extremists have a desire to see many African countries become an Islamic caliphate. They are currently waging a battle across the northern states. Part of the plan is to remove Christians by force from these regions. The states of Kaduna, Benue, and Plateau States are the hardest hit by the Muslim Fulani militant attacks and have experienced repeated attacks over the last two decades.

Our partners in Africa are experienced in providing essential relief to attack victims. The provide quality items like rice, maize, beans, mats, blankets and mosquito nets. Our partners also offer spiritual support to these families, which are often led by women who have just become widows.

Pastoral Support for African Pastors and Christian Leaders

ICR Canada, along with our partners, provide monthly support for pastors and their families. It includes transportation to and from hostile regions, Bibles and others tools for distribution, and education for their children. Our desire is to enable the pastors who minister in areas of severe persecution to do their work, and to encourage them to continue preaching the Good News in places where others dare not to go.

You can help provide support for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in Africa.

Examples of what your donations will do:

Support a widow monthly

Sponsor education for a child
